What to Know Before Installing New Plants in Your Landscape

At Greenleaf Landscaping & Construction, we help homeowners choose and install trees, shrubs, and privacy plantings that thrive in Washington’s climate—from hot, humid summers to freezing winters (USDA Zones 9a).

Local Climate: We only plant species that can handle our wide temperature swings, freeze-thaw cycles, and seasonal extremes.

Soil Conditions: Washington soils range from heavy clay to sandy loam. We assess your yard's soil and recommend any needed improvements to support healthy root growth.

Sunlight: Sun and shade exposure affects plant health. We evaluate your property’s light patterns to place plants where they’ll thrive.

Water Needs: Without an irrigation system? No problem. We focus on drought-tolerant and deep-rooted plants that hold up well through dry spells.

Pests & Disease: We avoid high-maintenance plants and favor varieties that resist deer, beetles, and local fungal issues.

Size & Spacing: We plan for the mature size of every plant to prevent crowding and reduce future pruning or removal.

We take the guesswork out of planting—so your landscape looks great now and grows beautifully for years to come.

At Greenleaf Landscaping & Construction we take all of these into consideration when coming up with a planting scheme for your landscape.  We will only choose and plant species that are well-suited to the specific conditions in our growing zone in Shoreline, Washington.
